Ferrari crashes in same tunnel where Cristiano Ronaldo wrote off his £200,000 supercar in 2009

A Ferrari has crashed in the same tunnel where former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo wrote off his £200,000 Ferrari in 2009.

Police said the driver escaped injury but ‘made a nasty mess of a nice car’ following the smash in a tunnel underneath Manchester Airport's runway.

The driver of the Ferrari 458 crashed into a wall on Wilmslow Road, on Wednesday afternoon, Manchester Evening News reports.

The accident was spotted and photographed by Olivia Hilton, who works for Signature Alloys and Wheels, and drove past just before 5pm.
Damage: The high-powered car was badly damaged in the crash

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "It was a Ferarri 458 which crashed into a wall on Wilmslow Road.

"The driver was not injured but was a little shaken up and made a nasty mess of a nice car.

"There were no other cars involved in the incident."

Former Manchester United footballer Ronaldo was driving his new top-of-the-range Ferrari 599, worth £200,000, for the first time when he crashed it near Manchester Airport in 2009.

In June two luxury supercars were filmed overtaking a motorist as they drove through the tunnel at speed.

The high-powered £260,000 Lamborghini Aventador and Bugatti Veyron – worth £1.2m – were spotted travelling through the tunnels underneath Manchester Airport.

This video, shot by the passenger of a Mini, shows the white Lamborghini overtaking the Bugatti at the spot where Ronaldo crashed his car.
